This year was full of excitement. We covered big topics, interesting news, food events around the world and featured dozens of exclusive interviews with some of the world’s finest chefs. Here’s a look back at all the fun we had in 2017.
S.PELLEGRINO YOUNG CHEF
This year young chefs around the world have been competing for the chance to be named the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018.
During 2017, 210 semi-finalists from around the globe competed in their respective local competitions with the hope of being crowned the best young chef in region, and ultimately securing a place in the Grand Finale.
In June 2018, the 21 local winners will compete at the Grand Finale in Milan, each with a signature dish that will be tasted by a jury of seven world-renowned chefs who will ultimately crown the S.Pellegino Young Chef 2018.
FOOD ON THE EDGE
Fine Dining Lovers is an exclusive media partner of Food on the Edge symposium held Galway, Ireland.
This year the food symposium returned with a bang and served as a platform for chefs from all over the world to address serious topics like the roles of chefs in the development of a country.
Among the speakers was chef Magnus Nilsson, who spoke about chef welfare and the importance of time off:
WORLD’S, ASIA’S AND LATIN AMERICA’S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS
We attended all of these events and live-streamed them directly from the World’s, Asia’s and Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremonies. We featured exclusive interviews with Gaggan Anand, Ana Ros and Micha Tsumura after their big wins.
Our year also included the scoop on what happened at #50BestTalks in Barcelona with chefs Ferran Adrià, René Redzepi, Massimo Bottura, Joan Roca, Daniel Humm and his restaurant partner Will Guidara.
Big news this year included chef René Redzepi’s pop up restaurant Noma in Mexico.
The chef and his crew spent quality time in Mexico learning about native ingredients and local traditions, all of which inspired a beautiful and delicious array of creative dishes.
Alinea’s Clear Pumpkin Pie
Another groundbreaking news story was the amazing clear pumpkin pie produced by chef Grant Achatz and his team at Alinea in Chicago.

Sebastian Bras hands back Michelin stars
It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it certainly makes headlines: a chef handing back his Michelin stars.
The chef in question this year was none other than Sebastian Bras who runs the legendary restaurant Le Suquet à Laguiole in France.

What’s work in the kitchen without a little humour? This year we had chefs confess their most stupid food orders – you won’t believe what made the list.
Bocuse d’Or 2017
