What fruits are best for grilling?
I recommend sticking with fruits that are on the firmer side and aren’t too ripe so that they stay together well when you add them to your grill. Stone fruits, tropical fruits and ones with thicker skin like watermelon are a great place to start! Here are our favorite fruits to grill:
Berries can be tricky to grill because they’re so small, but you can throw them on a skewer to grill fruit kabobs — see below how!
How to grill fruit: 2 different ways
Method 1: directly on the grill
This method is best for larger chunks of fruit that won’t easily fall into the grill grates.
Step 1: preheat your grill to medium high heat. Then remove any pits from the stone fruits or tough outer skins from the pineapple and watermelon.
Step 2: use a sharp knife to cut the stone fruits (peaches, plums and nectarines) in half, and cut the pineapple and watermelon into 1/2″ planks or wedges.
Step 3: place fruit directly onto the grill and grill for 3 minutes or until grill marks appear.
Step 4: flip each piece of fruit and grill for 3 more minutes.
Step 5: remove fruit from the grill and serve plain, with ice cream or with a drizzle of honey yogurt!
Method 2: using fruit kabobs
Use this method to easily make fun fruit kabobs that you can serve on a platter!
Step 1: repeat step 1 above by removing pits from the stone fruit and removing the tough outer skin from the pineapple and watermelon.
Step 2: cut each of the fruits into 1″ cubes.
Step 3: carefully add the fruit cubes onto skewers.
Step 4: place the fruit kabobs on your grill and grill for 3 minutes or until grill marks form.
Step 5: flip each fruit kabob and grill for 3 more minutes.
